Ontario Rebate Programs
As Ontario Residents, you, and every Ontarian may be eligible for great changes coming related to green living. With November coming, Ontario Residents are now profiting from various programs that support renovation costs and saving money on upcoming energy bills.

Well, you must have already heard about the rebate programs that are taking place here in Ontario but, even if you didn’t, we will make things more clear - Rebate programs are the solution provided to everyone who is interested in making small changes to improve their buildings and make them eco-friendly.
Now, Ontario has a program for everything somewhere: heating, cooling, water conservation, insulation, you name it! Whether you’re interested in making big changes, such as a whole home renovation, or just a few small ones like switching out your light bulbs, you will definitely find something in all the Ontario energy programs!
These programs are a push-up for every Toronto Resident to renovate their home even for those who may find it expensive.
In the rest of this article, we will take a look at the most profitable programs: Home Efficiency Rebate, Ontario Affordability Fund, CMHC Green Fund and Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). What are the benefits they bring, and how can you profit from making environment-friendly choices.
1. Home Efficiency Rebate Program
You may be eligible to receive up to $5000 for renovations or upgrades to your home by Enbridge Gas Inc. Particularly you could get up to $2000 for insulation upgrades.
Requirements for eligibility are:
- Enbridge Gas customer
- Owner of a detached, semi-detached, town house or mobile home
- Energy assessments completed
- At least 2 eligible renovations completed

2. Ontario affordability fund
This program offers free or subsidized home energy assessments and energy-efficient upgrades and appliances to qualified residents.
To check and see if this is a viable option for you, just visit their website and tell them how much your electricity bill and your total household income is, and they’ll tell you what you qualify for. Or you could give them a call at 1 (855) 494-FUND or shoot them an email.
Once you’ve signed on to the program, you could potentially receive some free energy-efficient products for free!

You can apply by completing an application and returning it to the local municipality in which the property is located. You can download the application from your local municipality's website, visit one of the following locations or call to request one by mail:

Follow the instructions on the application form. Once you have completed the form, return it to the local municipality where your property is located. If you're approved, the rebate will be credited to your tax account by your local municipality property tax department. You do not need to repay the rebate. You will receive your property tax bill as usual, and the property taxes must be paid in full.
3. CMHC green home
Are you going big in the energy-efficiency department? Then start by looking into this Canada-wide program. It could get you a 15% to 25% refund on your mortgage loan insurance when you use CMHC financing to build a new, energy-efficient home or renovate for energy efficiency.
When you’re renovating, the amount of your refund will depend on the results of your energy-efficiency project. Should you increase your rating by at least 5 points, and the EnerGuide rating on your house was 55 or more before your renovation began, you’ll get a 15% refund.
If you’re building a new home, you’ll get the 25% refund when you build to R-2000 standards. Build to any other eligible national or provincial environmental standard and you’ll get the 15% refund. Either way, saving money is always great, especially if you’re doing your part to help the environment at the same time!

4. Home Energy Loan Program (HELP)
HELP is a loan program initiated by the City of Toronto to help you finance home energy improvements and reduce utility bills. These types of improvements can make for a more comfortable home, and reduce greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. The loan program assists those who might not otherwise be able to finance the high upfront costs of home energy improvements.
